Parents' Prayer Before the Bris

Parents

With hearts overflowing with joy and hope, we bring our son before family and friends to perform the act of entering him into the covenant. We feel blessed in having shared in the miracle of creation and childbirth. We thank You God for this new life that has been granted to us.

Grandparents' prayer

Our God and God of all generations, we are grateful for this new beginning, for the bond of new life that links one generation to another, thankful for the blessings of family, for the love and care that bring meaning and happiness to our lives - we rejoice with our children at the birth of their child.

Mother

With all my heart, with all my soul, with all my might – I thank you God for the gift of this child. I thank You for a healthy pregnancy, a safe delivery, and a speedy recovery.

Mohel introduces blessing that mother will say. Afterwards mother recites:

BARUCH ATAH A’DO-NAI ELO-HEINU MELECH HAOLAM HA-GO-MEL LE-CHA-YA-VIM TO-VOT SH-G’MA-LA-NI KOL TOV.

Father

With all my heart, with all my soul, with all my might - I pray for the continued health of our child. I pray for him to be strong in mind, body, and spirit - to grow in a home filled with joy & meaning, to become one who greets the world with love, courage, humility, humor, and patience.

Parents

We pray to God to watch over our family. We commit to raising him to cherish our tradition, to love and nurture him, to provide for him and to educate him.
